24 Mai Cégep Marie-Victorin – Runway Show – Gala Collectif Créatif 2017

Earlier this month Cégep Marie-Victorin hosted their annual Gala Collectif Créatif, an event presenting the work of their most recent graduates in Visual Arts, Fashion Marketing, Interior design, Graphic Design and Music, once again an amazing showcase of the diverse talents and skills of Marie-Vic graduates.

While the highlight of the evening was an impressive fashion show, the Gala was much more than that: a great networking opportunity and an occasion for guests to meet the students and an exhibition of various creations of Marie-Vic Interior Design and Graphic Design  graduates. A very interesting and original piece was a fashion mapping dress designed by Maude Dallaire-Lincourt (which we had previously seen at McCord Museum).

Hosted by Lolitta Dandoy, a fashion journalist and a graduate from Cégep Marie-Victorin’s Fashion Marketing program, the runway show was a remarkable presentation of multidisciplinary talents. The designs were created by Fashion Design graduates, the videos presented during the show were created by Graphic Design students in collaboration with the Visual Arts department, and the soundtrack of the show was put together by a Music student. It all flowed together beautifully in a show inspired by 5 important moments in Montreal’s urban development and thus organized into 5 different themes, as follows:

1. RÉSO:

Montreal is known for its vast underground network, which links most of downtown through approximately 32 km of tunnels.

2. MÉTRO:

Inspired by Montreal’s metro system (which was inaugurated in October 1966), the show placed the designs in the day-to-day setting of a busy metro station platform.

3. EXPO 67

Under the theme ” Man and his World” (Terre des Hommes), Expo 67 was an important moment in Montreal’s development, and, through the many visitors, opened the city to international discovery.

4. 1967 Olympic Games

Inspired by the XXIst Olympic games, which took place in Montreal in 1967, gathering over 6000 participants from 92 countries.

5. UNESCO DESIGN CITY 

In June 2006, Montreal joined UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, a title awarded for the city’s creativity in design.

AWARDS

Talent doesn’t go unnoticed. The runway show was followed by the presentation of a series of awards. We wish to congratulate the winners, as follows:

• Daniel Beaudet, an upcoming Montreal designer for winning the Ariane 2017 Award.

• Isabelle Pomerleau -Mode Academie contest 2nd prize winner.
